SPORTS MINISTER COMMITTED TO ALL NATIONAL TEAMS

The Minister for Youth and Sports Hon. Nii Lantey Vanderpuye has reiterated government’s commitment to ensure that every national team in the country is accorded the needed support and investment in a bid to expand the frontiers of sports in the country.

According to the Minister, with the introduction of such reforms, the country stands to maximise the gains of every sporting discipline, adding that with the right investment,Ghana can restore its pedigree as a giant sporting nation not only in Africa but the world over.

The Minister made these known when the National Men and Women’s Volleyball team, the Black Spikers presented to him trophies won at the Confederation of Africa Volleyball (CAVB) Zone 3 Nations cup held in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso.

Both teams were triumphant in their respective games after beating Niger, Benin before finishing off the host nation, Burkina Faso in a thrilling final to lift this year’s coveted trophy.

Hon. Vanderpuye further conveyed a congratulatory message from H.E the President and the Government of Ghana to the team for making Ghana a force to reckon with in CAVB. He said government recognises their enviable feat and assured the team that the Ministry on behalf of government would show its gratitude in due time.

Speaking at the presentation session, the leader of delegation and President of the Ghana Volleyball Association (GVA) Mr. Paul Atchoe said aside the trophies at stake which the Black Spikers won, players from both teams swept away seven out of the eight individual honours notably the best player awards for both men and women’s team.

Mr. Atchoe was thankful to the Ministry in its bid to create an equal opportunity for all national teams to benefit from government’s support.
