PRESS RELEASE:

The Ministry of Youth and Sports (MOYS) has instituted a monthly Fitness and Health Walk to be organised throughout the country every last Saturday of the month.

This programme is in response to the call by H.E the Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia when he led a large crowd of fitness enthusiasts to undertake a health walk in March as part of the Ghana@60 Health walk in Accra.
The next Health Walk will take place in Kumasi where the nationwide Vice-Presidential Health Walk will be launched. Subsequently the Walk will be hosted by other regions until all regions in Ghana are covered. Then it will move to the districts.

The ultimate aim of the programme is to ensure that every last Saturday of the month is devoted to walking for fitness as a lifestyle of every Ghanaian. This is in line with MOYS’ preventive medical care for Ghanaians.

The slogan for the Vice-Presidential initiative is ‘Moving the Nation; Moving the People towards Health, Fitness and Wellbeing’
It is in support of this initiative that the Agricultural Development Bank (ADB) has pledged to be the title sponsor for the programme. The sponsorship was disclosed by the Managing Director of the Bank, Mr. Daniel Asiedu when he led other executives of the bank to call on the Minister for Youth and Sports, Hon. Isaac Kwame Asiamah yesterday in Accra.

Mr. Asiedu said the decision by the Bank to sponsor the Health Walk was in line with the need for Ghanaian populace especially the youth to remain fit and healthy through regular exercise.
While assuring the Minister of the Bank’s support for him to excel in office, the ADB Managing Director indicated that the Bank is also willing to work with everyone to enhance its service delivery to the public.

Welcoming the Executives of the Bank, Hon. Isaac Kwame Asiamah expressed his gratitude for the Bank’s decision to support the instituted Health Walk. He reiterated government’s commitment to develop all nationally recognized sporting disciplines in the country. He however advocated for corporate organisations to support government in its efforts to provide infrastructure towards the development of sports.

He therefore urged the bank to leave a legacy to create a lasting impression in the minds of Ghanaians. He added that five regions namely Brong Ahafo, Eastern, Volta, Upper East and Upper West Regions lack sports stadia and called on other corporate institutions to consider constructing corporate branded sports infrastructure.
