The Minister of Youth and Sports, Hon. Isaac Kwame Asiamah has expressed delight at the election of Ghanaian youth activist, Mr. Ahmed Bening as the Deputy General Secretary of the Pan African Youth Union (PYU).

The election, which came off at the 5th Ordinary Congress of the PYU in Khartoum, Sudan will see Mr. Bening serve the position for a three-year term beginning 2018-2020.

Following the election victory, the Sports Minister in a statement during a courtesy by the new Deputy Secretary General of PYU, said his election to the Executive membership of PYU is a testament of one of the Youth and Sports Ministry’s policy to support and promote Ghanaians to gain positions in international Youth and Sports bodies.

“The Ministry of Youth and Sports believes in developing the capacity of youth and supporting them to lead Africa and the World’’ the Minister stated.

Hon. Kwame Asiamah indicated that the Government of Ghana under the leadership of H.E. Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo is committed to ensure that the country further expand her influence and strengthen her soft power on the continent. This commitment he noted has already led a deliberate effort to strategically position Ghanaians in key institutions within ECOWAS, AU, The Commonwealth and the United Nations.

The Youth and Sports Minister was confident Mr. Bening’s new role within the PYU would open Ghanaian youth to new opportunities and set a solid agenda to harness the country’s demographic dividends and transform the youth development landscape within Africa.

In his remarks, Mr. Ahmed Bening thanked H.E. the President, the Minister for Youth and Sports and Chief Executive Officer of National Youth Authority (NYA) for the tremendous support that culminated in his victory.

“I will use this opportunity to raise high the flag of Ghana in Africa and the world through cooperation and collaboration and employment – driven opportunities for the youth in Ghana and beyond”. He added.
