The Minister for Youth and Sports, Hon. Elvis Afriyie-Ankrah has met with the Management Staff of the National Youth Employment Programme (NYEP) at their Head office in Accra on Tuesday, 26th February, 2013.
Addressing them, the Minister said NYEP was a very strategic agency in the socio-economic scheme of national development.
Hon Afriyie-Ankrah said Government was committed to assisting the youth in making meaningful lives for themselves, hence its initiatives in increasing the number of modules under the NYEP.
He said there was the need for the program to renew itself and respond to new trends, despite its challenges and called on staff to gird their lions and work harder to make the program achieve its desired impact.
Receiving the Minister, the National Deputy Co-ordinator, Operations of NYEP, Mr Hamidan Nuhu stated that currently the program has over 400000 beneficiaries and that there was the need for regular statutory payments to enhance the program.
He added that there was collaboration with the World Bank as well as DANIDA for extra resources to augment government support.
