The Deputy Minister for Youth and Sports, Hon.Joseph Yammin has officially launched the 38th SWAG Awards at a colourful ceremony held at the Media Center of the Accra Sports Stadium.
In his speech, Hon.Yammin stated that the Ministry will initiate this year the review of the existing Sports Law,S.M.C.D 54 of 1976 and the National Sports Policy to ensure that the country’s regulatory framework for the Sports sector conforms to modern trends and meets international standards and best practices.
“We therefore wish to call on SWAG,being a repository of information on sports, to play a leading role in providing ideas for the formulation of the sports Policy and its Implementation Plan and for the passage of the Sports Law and its L.I.” he added.
Hon. Yammin also thanked SWAG and all its collaborating partners and sponsors for sustaining the SWAG Award and organising it consistently over the 38 years of its inception to recognise and honour the creme de la creme of Ghana Sports.
The President of SWAG, Mr Ackah Anthony promised to sustain the cordial relationship between SWAG and the Ministry of Youth and Sports in ensuring the promotion and development of sports in the country,adding that this years event would be a special one.
The Corporate Services Executive of MTN,title sponsors of the SWAG Awards,Mrs Cynthia Lumor stated that MTN had supported the development of sports in Ghana and had also incorporated local sporting activities in festivals and regional celebrations acrross the country.
Present were the Acting Director-General of the National Sports Authority, Madam Alice Attipoe; Patrons of SWAG, and some Supporters Union.
