The Minister for Youth and Sports, Hon. Elvis Afriyie Ankrah accompanied by the Kumasi Metropolitan Chief Executive, Hon. Kojo Bonsu and some officials of the National Sports Authority paid a courtesy call on the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II at Manhyia.
The visit by the Minister was to officially inform the Asantehene of the upcoming National Unity Games scheduled to take place in Kumasi from the 11th – 18th August, 2013.
Hon. Elvis Afriyie Ankrah said, Ghana’s plans were far advanced for the hosting and successful organization of the Unity Games in Kumasi.
The Hon. Minister indicated that the Games was aimed at fostering peace and unity among the Ghanaian youth and also unearth talents to represent Ghana in international competitions.
Hon. Ankrah assured Otumfuor that the Ministry will continue to deliver on its mandate of promoting and developing sports in Ghana.
The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II thanked the Hon. Minister for choosing Kumasi as the venue for this year’s Unity Games.
Otumfuo disclosed that he was very confident that the Games would unearth talents and bring unity among Ghanaians.
Otumfuo added that attention should also be paid to other lesser known sports to help it develop.
He assured the Minister that he would take time out of his busy schedule to attend the Games.
