The Minister of Youth and Sports, Hon. Elvis Afriyie-Ankrah, in recognition of the international exploits of members of the Ghana Kickboxing Association and the Ghana Boxing Association, hosted them to a dinner at the Tip Top Chinese restaurant in Accra on Wednesday, 14th August, 2013.
Various Kick boxers, who had won medals and trophies as well as current boxing champions, Emmanuel Tagoe and Richie Oblitey Commey, were the highlight of the dinner, held in their honour, and attended by Executives of the two Sports Associations.
Addressing them, Hon. Afriyie-Ankrah reiterated his commitment to be a Minister for all sporting disciplines, adding that since his assumption to office, he had strived to ensure that all sports were given equal attention by the Ministry.
He said that modern sports had become more professional and businesslike, hence the need for a rethinking of the role of the private sector to augment government’s efforts at the promotion and development of sports in Ghana.
Hon Afriyie-Ankrah stated that Government was on course in fulfilling its promise to build a modern state of the art sports arena, where all sporting disciplines would get access to training facilities and commended the boxers and the kickboxers present for their tenacity despite the odds.
