Ghana has lifted the WAFU Football Tournament by beating Senegal 3-1 in the finals played at the Kumasi Sports Stadium yesterday.

Two goals from Kwabena Edusei and one from Latif Mohammed ensured victory for the local Black Stars and served as a booster as they prepare for next year’s African Nations Championship in South Africa.

The first goal for Ghana came as early as the 2nd minute through a penalty expertly converted by Edusei after Mohammed Sulley was fouled by his marker from behind.

Hopes of a goal rout were dashed when Senegal equalised through Gomis after displacing the Ghanaian goalkeeper.

The first half ended with the scoreline at 1-1.

Right after the break, both sides played out to secure a win but it was Ghana that had the better options and deservedly went ahead through Latif.

Ghana won another penalty in the dying embers of the game and Edusei sent the crowd jubilating with his second goal and Ghana’s third to effectively win the game for Ghana.

Senegal was reduced to ten men when Thioune Ousseynou was sent off for a foul.

In the match for third place, Togo defeated Benin 2-1.
