The much heralded Queen’s Baton, which arrived in the country last Friday, was officially received into the country on Saturday, January 4^th, 2014 by H.E. Paa Kwesi Bekoe Amissah Arthur, the Vice President of Ghana at a colourful ceremony held at the forecourt of the Flagstaff House in Accra.

The Vice President later started the Baton relay, when he jogged with the baton for fifty meters, handed it over to the Chief of Staff, Mr Prosper Bani, who also run with it to the entrance of the Flagstaff House, before handing it over to the Minister for Youth and Sports, Hon. Elvis Afriyie Ankrah.

The relay then continued through some streets in Accra where it changed hands with about 70 people, including Ministers of State, Members of Parliament, Traditional authorities, CEO’s of various companies, Musicians and Sports Personalities carrying the torch before its final stop at the Parliament House.

H.E. Amissah Arthur stated that Government would adequately support Ghana’s participation at the Commonwealth Games, adding that the Baton Relay would serve as a tourism opportunity for the country.

He impressed upon the athletes who would represent Ghana to put up their best and make the nation proud. 

The Queen’s Baton Relay is a prelude to the 20^th Commonwealth Games to be held in Glasgow, Scotland from the 23^rd of July, 2014 to the 3^rd of August, 2014.
