The Minister for Youth and Sports, Hon. Elvis Afriyie Ankrah accompanied by staff of the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the National Sports Authority (NSA) has paid a two-day working visit to the Volta Region.

The purpose of the visit was to acquaint himself with developments on some ongoing and proposed projects in the region.

His first point of call was at the Anfoega Senior High School where he inspected their Multi-Purpose Tennis Court which is among twenty multipurpose Tennis Courts the Ministry has built across the country.

He expressed his disappointments at the state of the project and tasked the Assembly to immediately contact the contractor to ensure that the project was completed.

The minister was later accompanied by the Chief of Kpando, Togbe Dagadu  to visit the Kpando Sports Stadium where the Chief indicated that Football is one of the major sporting activity in his municipality and therefore appealed to the Hon. Minister to upgrade the Kpando Sports Stadium to the status of a sports complex.

In his response, Mr. Afriyie-Ankrah disclosed that government was committed to rehabilitating the stadium and added that since Kpando can boast of a premiership club (Kpando Heart of Lions), it was necessary for them to have a good stadium.

He therefore assured the chief his people that the Ministry will soon engage experts to carry out assessment of the stadium to pave way for rehabilitation works to begin on it.

The minister’s next stop was at the proposed site for the Ho Sports Stadium where he was accompanied by the Volta Regional Minister, Nii Laryea Afotey Agbo.
He indicated that Government was prepared to put up a new stadium at Ho to promote and develop Sports in the region. He urged the Ho Assembly to immediately engage the land owners on the issue of compensation to pave way for the project to commerce.
