On behalf of Government and the good people of Ghana, and on his own behalf, the Minister for Youth and Sports, Hon. Elvis Afriyie-Ankrah congratulates the National Under-20 female Football team, the Black Princesses for making the country proud by qualifying to the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup, Canada 2014.

In his message, Hon. Afriyie-Ankrah once again extends the heartfelt appreciation of the President, H.E. John Dramani Mahama to the playing body, technical and management teams of the Black Princesses for their heroic performance against the Equatorial Guinean counterparts to ensure their third consecutive appearance at the World Cup finals.

“This remarkable achievement by the Black Princesses, especially their level-headedness and tactical discipline during the penalty shoot-out demonstrated their determination to qualify for the world cup.  This is the turning point in the revitalization of Women Football in Ghana and I believe that they will lift high the flag of Ghana at the tournament”, the Hon. Minister says.

The Hon. Minister also uses this opportunity to congratulate the Local Black Stars for qualifying to the Semi-finals of the ongoing Orange African Nations Championship, South Africa 2014 by beating their D.R. Congo counterpart on Sunday, 26th January, 2014.

 “Ghanaians are looking up to you to bring the trophy home, and I know that you will not disappoint us. We wish you all the best in your next match against Nigeria. You are capable of winning the ultimate; just commit yourself to it and it will be a done deal”, the Minister emphasized.

The Hon. Minister also thanks the good people of Ghana for their spiritual and moral support for the team during the tournament. He encouraged all Ghanaians to continue to rally behind the Local Black Stars to a historical first lifting of the CHAN trophy.
