Ghana’s preparation towards a very successful participation at the FIFA World Cup 2014 in Brazil took a giant step when the Ministry of Youth and Sports received a donation of GH¢ 230,000.00 from Zenith Bank.

The donation, which is seed money for the Ghana’s Brazil 2014 World Cup Campaign Project, makes Zenith the official partner bank of the Campaign Project.

In his address, the Managing Director of the bank, Mr Daniel Asiedu said their donation was to support Ghana’s participation at the tournament, since Zenith Bank believed that the power of football united many people.

‘‘If there is one sport that unites people from different divides, countries, tribes, political parties, whatever, it is undauntedly football and it is with this knowledge that Zenith Bank has committed to supporting Ghana’s participation in Brazil.

Government’s initiative for supporting Ghana’s participation in the World Cup is aimed at promoting sports, tourism, and the rich culture of the country thereby driving foreign investment, and  Zenith Bank identifies with this, hence our involvement” he said.

The Minister for Youth and Sports, Hon. Elvis Afriyie-Ankrah stated that not every supporter would be able to travel to Brazil and that there was the need to make them feel the world Cup in Ghana through the setting up of Fan Parks to enable them follow the Black Stars’ campaign every step of the way.

‘‘We will place giant screens across the country at vantage point to ensure that supporters who cannot make it to Brazil will stay behind to support the Black Stars to victory’’.
