The Ministry of Youth and Sports (MoYS) has inaugurated the three member Commission of Inquiry set up by the President of the Republic of Ghana, His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, to look into events that led to Ghana’s early exit from the FIFA World Cup in Brazil.
Members of the Commission are; Hon, Senyo Dzamefe (Justice of Court of Appeal-Chairman), Moses Foh-Amoaning (Esq.Lawyer and Sports Administrator) and Kofi Anokye Owusu Darko (Banker and Sports Enthusiats). They were sworn into office by Justice Akamba from the Supreme Court.
The Minister of Youth and Sports, Hon. Mahama Ayariga reiterated that the Presidential Commission of Inquiry set up to look into happenings that led to Ghana’s poor performance at the FIFA World Cup in Brazil will not be a ‘witch-hunter’.
He said the essence of the commission is to engage in a simple fact finding exercise and enable Ghanaians to know exactly what happened in Brazil and recommendations made would enable the country to reform systems and give Ghanaians hope for a better tournament in future.
He assured the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and FIFA that the commission has no intention of violating any of the provisions of FIFA statutes.
He said both parties (GFA and Ministry) have reached an agreement to write to FIFA to explain the terms of the commission. He added that “if FIFA is able to show us that the way some of the clauses of the C.I. 82 are crafted do not sit in well with their statutes, and it is simple semantics, government will look at the rendition again but the commission of Inquiry will definitely look into circumstances of Ghana’s participation in Brazil 2014.
Chairman of the Commission thanked the President for the confidence reposed in them and assured him and the people of Ghana that they will work according to their terms of reference.
He said as a commission they will make sure most of their sittings will be made public and called on all Ghanaians who wish to testify before the commission to feel free to approach them.
He said the initial 14 day given to them will not be enough and will therefore sit with minister to look for a possible extension to enable them do a proper work to serve the interest of Ghanaians.
