The Ministry of Youth and Sports (MOYS) in collaboration with the Ministry of Education (MOE) and the World Scout Committee (WSC) will soon roll out a comprehensive Scout Program for all pupils in basic schools nationwide.

This is to inculcate in them the core values of scouting such as citizenship skills, health and fitness, honesty, humility, respect, perseverance, positive attitude, responsibility and resourcefulness.

This was made known by the Minister for Youth and Sports, Hon. Mahama Ayariga when a delegation from the World Scout Committee paid a courtesy call on him on Wednesday, 24th September, 2014.

The delegation, headed by Ms. Jemima Nartey, Vice Chair, World Scout Committee (WSC), included Mr. Isaac Newton Addy, Member, Africa Scout Foundation; Gregory Manful, Chief Commissioner, Ghana Scout Association; and Bright Ofosu Larbi, Personal Assistant to the Vice Chair of the WSC.

Hon. Ayariga stated that in line with H.E. President John Dramani Mahama’s commitment to encourage the youth to accomplish patriotism and service to humanity deeds, the Ministry will ensure that the program was scaled up to involve and train as many young ones as possible.

He congratulated Ms Nartey for being the first Ghanaian to ascend to the position of Vice Chairperson of the World Scout Committee, which is the executive body of the World Organization of the Scout Movement (WOSM), adding that the ministry would lend its support in any area needed.

Ms Nartey said that this year marked the 100th year of existence of the Scout movement and that the World Scout Committee had set up work streams to address the top priorities Strategic, which were Youth Involvement; Volunteers in Scouting; and Scouting’s Profile (communications, partnerships, resources).

She informed the Minister that H.E. John Mahama, being the President of Ghana was automatically the Chief Scout of the Ghana Scout Association and appealed to the Ministry to facilitate the official investiture.

Present were Hon. Vincent Oppong Asamoah, Deputy Minister for Youth and Sports and Ras Mubarak, Acting Chief Executive Officer of the National Youth Authority.
