Executives of the Ghana Boxing Association (GBA) have paid a courtesy call on the Minister for Youth and Sports, Hon. Dr. Mustapha Ahmed at his office in Accra. The five member delegation was led by the President of GBA, Lawyer Peter Zwennes congratulated the Minister on his appointment and discussed some concerns of the GBA and programs/ activities the association had planned for the discipline. He said the association had plans to organize a boxing league across the country to unearth talents. He also mentioned regional outreach programmes, refresher courses for coaches and trainers, welfare packages for our ex-boxers.
“We cannot confine boxing to Accra alone; in the past there have been some very good champions and coaches from the other regions, we therefore decided to take boxing to the doorstep of the people in the regions.

 
.We were able to have one outreach programme in the Central Region and beyond that, we have not been able to do anything. Our main problem however, is funding”. He said. He also spoke on the plans for a gymnasium
The Minister of Youth and Sports, Dr. Mustapha Ahmed commended the association on their accomplishments so far and stressed on the importance of attracting the private sector to aid the discipline through business relationships with these companies.

 
’There is the need for unity among the various stakeholder groups .once we have unity then we can move the load in one direction‘ he said.We could do better if we all put our heads together. He said he spoke with other associations outside our jurisdiction and learnt that they depend less on government support and more on private funding.
The Minister expressed interest in the need to initiate the boxing league. He pointed out that since the boxing talents are mostly found in the capital there is a need to concentrate more on them with regards to the limited resources available.
The president of the Ghana Boxing Association expressed his gratitude on behalf of the association. He was positive about the outcome of the meeting and hopeful that the issues and concerns raised will be duly addressed.
Other members of the delegation were, Mr. Nii Hansen Thompson, 1st Vice President, Mr. Rabon Dodoo,2nd Vice President and Naa Darkuah Dodoo, the PRO of the Association.
Also present was Mr.Woyome, Chairman of the Parliamentary Select Committee on Sports.
