Dr. Mustapha Ahmed, the Minister for Youth and Sports, has performed the closing ceremony of the joint UK and Ghana Air Cadet Corps Jungle Orientation Training programme held at the Jungle Warfare School (JWS) at Achiase in the Eastern Region.

The training programme which started from the 11th to 15th of July, 2015 was one of the activities commemorating the 60th anniversary of National Cadet Corps in Ghana.
On arrival at the Jungle Warfare School the Minister inspected a Guard of Honour and later on he was given a brief at the Akafia Hall by Major Cobba-Eshun, Second-In-Command of the School. He was also taken round the sports facilities and the various improvised survival and endurance facilities.

Speaking at the closing ceremony, the Minister who was also the Guest of Honour, recalled with nostalgia military exercises he had undergone at the JWS as a young army officer years ago and said he was happy to be visiting the institution.
He said based on his own experience there he knew participants had a hectic time both mentally and physically but that notwithstanding he was confident the jungle experience was worthwhile since navigation, unarmed combat,survival,endurance run among others were some of the training exercises they went through.
“Beside the stressful aspect of the training here, I believe it has also been interesting as Cadets of both countries have shared rich cultural experiences which is one of the objectives of bringing you together. I also hope you have made good friends among yourselves which would transcend beyond the end of this programme”the Minister said.

Dr Mustapha Ahmed expressed his delight that the participants from the UK enjoyed the training more especially some of the march songs like “ I want somebody to carry me home” and “ cook sergeant give me food…”
The Minister acknowledged the support of his Ministry towards the programme and promised more support in similar future programmes.He presented three footballs to the JWS and on behalf of his Ministry pledged to fund the painting of their kitchen and provide facilities for the volleyball pitch.

The leader of the UK team, Wing Commander Stuart Mcneil of behalf of his team thanked the Minister and course instructors for their support and extended an invitation to the Minister to visit the UK.
Also at the ceremony were Mr.Victor Senaya,Chief Director of Ministry of Youth and Sports and Nicholas Armarteifio,National Cadet Coordinator.
