PRESS RELEASE

MESSAGE OF CONDOLENCE

The Ministry of Youth and Sports has learnt with deep shock and great sorrow, the tragic death of Mr. Samuel Anim, Ghana’s National Cycling Champion, through a motor accident at Aburi.

We recall with a deep sense of nostalgia the contributions of this illustrious son of the land to our national development efforts in the area of sports where his achievements in cycling stood tall.

The late Anim participated and won the Cowbell National Tour of Ghana Championship for years. He also participated in the first ever African Cycling Championship in Rwanda in 2011 followed by the Second African Cycling Championship in Egypt in 2013.

His last major tour was his participation in the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland in 2014 where he excelled. In between these achievements, the late Anim has participated in many tours in Burkina Fasso, Cote D’ivoire, Togo, Benin and DR Congo, respectively.
He has numerous medals and jerseys especially in the combative category to his credit.
Samuel Anim met his untimely death in the course of preparing for the upcoming All Africa Games in Congo Brazzaville in September.

The death of this national star at the peak of his career is a sad event that we are yet to come to full terms with; an undeserved epilogue to an otherwise illustrious career.
In this moment of national loss, the Minister on behalf of Government, the staff of the Ministry and its agencies, wish to express their heart-felt condolences to the bereaved family, the President of the Cycling Federation as well as the entire sports fraternity.
We sincerely share in your pain.
