The Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports, Hon.Vincent Oppong Asamoah has advised Ghana’s contingent at the All Africa Games not to be undaunted but rather strive hard to overcome the odds and win medals for the country.
The Deputy Minister was in Brazzaville to assess the performance of Team Ghana in the ongoing games, and gave this advice when he met with the presidents of the various sporting federations at the Games Village at Kintele in Congo Brazzaville.
He was accompanied to the Games Village by the Consul General of Ghana to the Republic of Congo, Mr.Joseph Antwi and the Director General of the National Sports Authority, Mr. Joe Kpenge.
Hon.Asamoah told them he was there to have firsthand information on Team Ghana’s performances so far and to know if there were any challenges and that contrary to news back home, he was happy to find Team Ghana in high spirits.
After the briefing by the presidents of the associations, the Deputy Minister expressed his appreciation to them and encouraged them to keep the morale in camp high. He however noted that since some of the teams were already out of the competition, he would ensure that arrangements are made for their early flight back home in order to cut down cost.
He also urged all the teams still in the competition to strive hard and make enough gains
“All we have to do now is to give our support to the teams still in competition”, he said.
He explained the financial position of the Ministry to them but was also quick to add that all the promises made to them by the Ministry would be fully met and advised them to mobilize themselves to support the teams that are still in the competition.
The Deputy Minister asked them to put the past behind them and strive for more laurels.
He however assured them that whatever challenges they had would be addressed back home after the Games to find the way forward.
Hon.Asamoah later on visited some venues to watch the competitions ; he witnessed the women’s football semi-final match between the Senior National Women’s Team, the Black Queens and their Ivorian counterparts at Stade Kintele 3 which the Black Queens won by 1-0 .
