The Minister of Youth and Sports Hon. Nii Lantey Vanderpuye, has assured boxers that their vocation would soon be among the mainstay of the country’s sporting disciplines when the ultra-modern state- of- the- art Trust Sports Emporium is completed.

The project which includes an International Boxing arena, a gymnasium, standard swimming pools and host of other facilities, when completed, would be better suited to host international bouts as well as other sporting activities.

The Youth and Sports Minister made these known when the newly crowned WBC World Youth champion, Isaac Dogboe and his team presented the titles he won in his recent fight with the Filipino challenger, Neil John Tabanao, to the Minister in his office in Accra.

In his welcome remarks, Hon. Nii Lantey Vanderpuye on behalf of government and the people of Ghana, the congratulated Dogboe for his enviable feat. He noted that his annexation of the title is a clear indication that boxing talents still abound in the country. This he said is the reason behind government relentless effort to develop the sport through the provision of infrastructure to help nurture the skills of young boxers.

‘’With work progressing steadily on the multi-million-dollar boxing sports complex, it is expected to be completed soon to give professional boxers like yourself enabling and world standard environment to train with modern equipment and most importantly host international bouts that hitherto would have been hosted outside the country because of obvious lack of standard arena in the country.” The Hon. Minister stated.

The Hon. Minister urged the champion not to rest on his laurels but rather be encouraged by the unflinching support of government and people of Ghana and aim for the top.

Isaac Dogbe on his part expressed his gratitude to the government for its dedication towards the revival of boxing sport in the country. The boxer who is currently ranked   5th   in the WBO featherweight Youth championship ratings, was hopeful that with the kind of investment the government is making in infrastructural development, the sports will not ‘die as claimed by people’’ He also expressed his appreciation to the people of Ghana for their support and confidence in him.
