The Minister for Youth and Sports, Hon. Nii Lantey Vanderpuye on behalf of H.E. President John Dramani Mahama and the Government of Ghana congratulates Emmanuel ‘Game Boy’ Tagoe for winning the vacant IBO Lightweight title belt after defeating his South African opponent in a unanimous decision in Accra on Friday.

The victory by ‘Game Boy’ is more refreshing given that it signals the end of the Country’s quest to have a world champion in the pugilist profession and more importantly, the fact that the world title bout was staged and won in the new Bukom Boxing Arena.

This feat by this warrior lends credence that with the right facilities and the needed technical expertise Ghana can reclaim its lost glory in the sport of Boxing.

The Minister is urging the new champ not to relent on his efforts to defend the title and possibly go on to win more belts under different sanctioned bodies.
The Minister also applauds the Senior National Women Soccer Team, the Black Queens for the impressive performance that won the team bronze medals at the just ended African Women Cup of Nations in Cameroun.

The Minister salutes the Queens for their ability to rise to the occasion again when the dream of lifting the trophy at stake was halted by the host nation, Cameroun. My pride in the Queens is their zeal that saw them overcome disappointments and challenges to commit to the national course. This exemplifies your resilience and determination to win for the country.

The Ministry has no doubt of the team’s chances of winning the coveted trophy when Ghana gets to host the tournament next in 2018.
