The Minister for Youth and Sports, Hon. Isaac Kwame Asiamah has assured the Senior National Cricket Team of Government’s support as a way of developing the sports which is gradually winning laurels for Ghana in recent times.
From all indications, Cricket as a sport is increasingly developing with Ghana beginning to participate in international tournaments.
The Minister made these remarks when the Senior National Cricket Team presented the trophy they won at the just ended International Cricket Council (ICC) WCL Qualifier, Africa Region Qualifier Tournament, held in South Africa.
The tournament which started on April 7, 2017 saw Ghana pitch its strength against Botswana, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, Tanzania and Zambia. They beat all of them to emerge champions of the tournament.
By virtue of this impressive feat Ghana has qualified to participate in the ICC World Cricket League Division 5 which kicks off in September, 2017.
Hon. Kwame Asiamah congratulated the team for the honour done the nation through the enviable feat and urged them to put up adequate preparation for the impending tournament. The Sports Minister reiterated H.E the President’s desire to the development of all sports disciplines.
The leader of the delegation and the President of the National Cricket Association, Prof. William Ampofo thanked the Minister for his encouragement and assured of the team’s preparedness to give off their best and win more laurels for the country.
