The High Commissioner of the Republic of Rwanda to Ghana, Her Excellency Aisa Kirabo Kacyira has paid a courtesy call on the Minister for Youth & Sports, Hon Isaac Kwame Asiamah in Accra.

In her initial remarks, the High Commissioner expressed delight for having met the Minister to discuss issues of common interest to both countries. She said, the existence of excellent relations between Rwanda and Ghana had made it possible to meet and brainstorm on issues affecting the two countries especially in the area of youth development for the continent at large.

The High Commissioner noted that the youth are the bedrock of development and when one wants to get things done, the youth must be considered.

She intimated that, the upcoming conference dubbed “Africa Youth Connect” is a big tool to equip the youth with big ideas whether in sports, agriculture or trade.

She therefore used the opportunity to urge the Minister to help tighten preparations for the conference with the technical committee to ensure that, the program comes off especially in these uncertain times, she added.

On his part, the Minister, who is also the Member of Parliament for the Antwima Mponua constituency noted that, African youth have been bedevilled with many challenges including streetism, unemployment and lack of skilled training and was therefore passionate about policies that could help mitigate these challenges to empower them for their total development.

He believed such empowerment could only be possible when Africa was ready to forge ahead with unity and cooperation to realize the objective.

He however, stated that, the Covid-19 pandemic had disrupted most plans but assured that, the Ministry will not rest on its oars to help organize a continental platform to connect about 8,000 young people in Africa to share ideas, experiences and gain insight into several skills and discoveries around them.

He noted that the upcoming conference which is slated for October this year, a tentative date, was a good initiative which will help shape the future of the African youth. He said, Ghana decided to partner the organizers of the program because of the noble idea to connect the youth in Africa for the progress of the continent.

Present at the meeting was the Chief Director of the Ministry, Mr. Frank Quist.
