The Minister for Youth and Sports, Hon. Mustapha Ussif met with ex National football stars on Wednesday September 1, 2021 to interact with the players who have played instrumental roles in helping Ghana win trophies as well raising the flag of Ghana high on the international scene.
The meeting was part of efforts to get all stakeholders on board with their expertise and experiences to turn the fortunes of sports around as far as Ghana’s international competitions are concerned.
The Sports Minister recalled memories of the stars as a little kid and praised the gallant heroes for their willingness, passion and dedication to serve the nation during their playing days.
” I am proud of you, Ghana will forever be grateful for your sacrifices” he stated.
The Chairman of the event, Alhaji M.N.D Jawula, in his address noted that Ghana needs to ensure that the sacrifices of such wonderful former national team players who have served the country and their clubs with honour and dedication are always appreciated.
According to him, he was happy to see all the former players of the senior team in excellent health, and also asked for God’s blessings on their behalf.
In his brief remarks,the President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Mr. Kurt Okraku said he was touched by the humility and enthusiasm exhibited by the former players for honouring the invitation at a short notice.
He noted that the ex-players have each played a critical role in Ghana football and considering their wealth of experiences needs to be brought on board to make Ghana football better.
Mr. Okraku further stated that football is all about team work and therefore implored the ex players to be part of grooming and motivating the current Black stars especially as they embark of the journey to another World cup qualification and the AFCON tournament next year.
