On Wednesday May 31 2023, the Minister for Youth and Sports, Hon Mustapha Ussif received the former Black Stars captain, Asamoah Gyan in his office to discuss issues pertaining to the successful organization of the Baby Jet under-16 talent hunt initiative.

The Minister noted that it was a good initiative and great foresight for the former skipper to think deeply about the development of grassroot football in Ghana and beyond.

He assured the player of his outfit’s support to ensure that the event was successful adding that it was a good platform for the youth to take advantage of the opportunity to showcase their talents and become exposed to the international community.

In his remarks, the manager
of Asamoah Gyan, Samuel Anim Addo expressed his sincere gratitude to the Minister for accepting to support them in their quest to help rejuvenate grassroot football and to help talented footballers across the continent to discover their God given talent.

He noted that apart from the football tournament, there were other thought-provoking activities such as career guidance, monitoring sessions and coaching for the young players that would be on the line up of activities for the event which will be held from the 6th of June to the 13th of June, 2023 at the Cape Coast Stadium.

The tournament is expected to bring together 32 teams from various African countries and seeks to develop their skills and would also include other football legends to mentor them both on and off the pitch.

The Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Decentralization, Hon Daniel Botwey who was also present at the meeting used the opportunity to congratulate Asamoah Gyan and his management team for the great idea.

He bemoaned the spate of social vices among the youth and stated that the organization of such events would go a long way to occupy them thereby helping to reduce their negative activities tremendously.

Present at the meeting were, the Deputy Minister for Youth and Sports, Hon. Evans Opoku Bobie, Chief Director, Mr. William Kartey and other officials of the Ministry.
