The Ministry of Youth and Sports has learnt with shock, the reported death of Mr. Enoch Teye Mensah, affectionately called E.T Mensah, the former Member of Parliament of the Ningo – Prampram Constituency and Council of State, and the longest serving Minister for Youth and Sports (1993-2001).

The Hon Mustapha Ussif, Management and Staff of the Ministry wish to commiserate and express our sincere condolences to the family of the late sports administrator and the entire youth and sporting fraternity for this great loss.

The late E.T Mensah’s journey into the administration of Youth and Sports policies began in the early 1990’s and his tenure run from 1993 to 2001, which was described as the transformative era in Ghana’s Youth and Sports sectors.

He has been credited with the introduction of the Professional League System and has left a legacy with his commitment to fitness and community engagement when he introduced keep fit clubs across the country.

He also spearheaded the construction of a 24-room apartment residential structure for the national team at Winneba, which served as the home for the Black Stars and amateur teams for several years until the establishment of the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence at Prampram.

Ghana had won the 1991 U-17 FIFA World Cup in Italy under his supervision and the building of the Winneba Sports Complex helped the Football Association to assemble young talents in order to have adequate preparation for major tournaments and it was evident in the 1995 in the U-17 FIFA World Cup.

The astute sports administrator has served the nation in various capacities and in various leadership roles including his stewardship that led to the transformation of the youth and sporting ecosystem.
