On Wednesday 13th December, 2023 a delegation from the HP Computing and Printing Limited registered in Nigeria paid a courtesy call on the Minister for Youth and Sports, Hon Mustapha Ussif purposely to discuss ways the two entities can collaborate to develop the talents of the youth in Ghana as for as eSports and eGames development is concerned.
Earlier, a Memorandum of Understanding had been signed between the two organizations to collaborate for the development of eSports and eGames activities in the country for the benefit of the youth of Ghana.
During the meeting the Director of HP Nigeria and channel Manager of HP Africa Central and East, Mr. Emmanuel Asika mentioned that his company was interested in promotion of digital literacy and digital equity through the capacity development of stakeholders in e-sports management, game programming and game design.
He indicated that his outfit was ready to support the Ministry in the area of Youth development, Sports development and Ghana’s quest to host and organize the 13th African Games, Accra 2023 and make it a memorable one.
In his remarks, the Sports Minister expressed his excitement about the MoU which he believes will enhance the potential of the youth for their growth and development. He added that the E-sport is an emerging sport in Ghana which has to be properly managed by experts to make it sustainable.
The Minister stated that, there are fundamental structures that have been put in place by government through the Digitalization Agenda being championed by the Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
He further stated that the structures provided include the supply of internet connectivity to all public universities at the behest of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, and would be rolled out to the senior high schools in the next phase.
The E-sport initiative in Ghana will not only shape the future of gaming but also empower the next generation of leaders, innovators and entrepreneurs in the tech space.
