On Tuesday 15th April, 2024 at the 2024 ECOSOC Youth Forum in New York, the Minister for Youth and Sports, Hon. Mustapha Ussif shared insights on engaging the youth in climate change.
He noted that it is important to share ideas and take concrete actions to protect the environment.
He highlighted Ghana’s initiatives, like the National Climate Change Policy and Green Ghana programme, which has seen the planting of over 41 million seedlings so far.

He further urged global agencies to partner with countries in engaging the youth to take action to mitigate the impact of environmental depletion.
He also pointed out Ghana’s interventions for sustainable urban development adding that the government has taken initiatives from the innovative construction technologies to the Green Ghana programme which has enabled leaders in the country to engage the youth in environmental stewardship.
On behalf of Ghana, he proposed strategic initiatives such as the establishment of a Global Urban Resilience Fund, International Youth Innovation Hub and a Worldwide Urban Greening Initiative among others.

He intimated that government was committed to empowering the youth to lead these efforts and help transform cities into sustainable and resilient communities.
“Together, we can build a brighter, greener future for all” , he noted.
