On Tuesday 25th February 2025, the leadership of the Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCA) paid a courtesy call on the Minister for Sports and Recreation at the conference room of the Ministry to welcome him to his new role in the high office of Minister as custom demands.
In his remarks, the Chairman of GHALCA, Mr. John Ansah took the opportunity to congratulate the Minister on his appointment to the office of Minister and introduced the executives of the Association to the Minister.
Mr. Ansah expressed his delight when the Minister pledged to work with all stakeholders to ensure development of the sports sector during his vetting and further expressed optimism that the Minister would fulfill his pledge noting that he had recognised that the Minister had already began operating an open door policy to engage all stakeholders.
He outlined the programs the Association would undertake during the year and pleaded with the Minister to begin with the planning of the activities as early as possible to guarantee the success of the programs which included the organisation of the President’s cup, the first lady’s cup and the top 4 tournament.
The Chairman noted that fan participation is what would ensure the successful implementation of the programs stressing that over the years, attendance at matche venues had proven to be a challenge and appealed to the Minister to help strategize to improve publicity for the upcoming programs.
On his part, the Minister underscored the need for a concerted effort by sensitizing football fans to bring back the love and return to the various stadia for the participation in football matches.
He revealed that, he intends to convene a meeting with all the industry players in sports to discuss dispassionately what could be done for the revival of football.
He further noted that experts conducted a research into sports and have estimated that, $1trillion will be available by 2028 to the sports industry and challenged sports administrators to find innovative ways to position themselves to tap in the huge available resources.
He assured of engaging all the stakeholders on a regular basis to find lasting solutions to the challenges facing the sports sector.
