The President of the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC), Mr. Ben Nunoo Mensah led a delegation of GOC executives to call on the Minister for Sports and Recreation at his office on Tuesday 25th February, 2025.
Key among discussions during the meeting included the common interest of developing sports across the country and what could be done to improve on the general welfare of sports men and women.
The President took the opportunity to congratulate the Minister on his appointment to the office of Minister and pledged the support of his members to the success and development of sports in the country.
He noted that, the GOC invests not less than $200,000 in the coaching, training and scholarship opportunities for sports men and women which in turn translates into the development of sports across various disciplines.
He indicated that, the leadership of the GOC were ready to work with the Minister and was committed to strengthening the relationship that has existed between the committee and the Ministry noting that they had worked closely with the previous administration and would continue to do same for the current administration.
The Minister for Sports and Recreation, Hon. Kofi Adams stated that he has a clear vision of developing sports and using the sports as a tool for development adding that, the focus is to strengthen the foundation which is the grassroots development, he stated.
He revealed that he was committed to bringing back the organisation of school sports across the country noting that is the foundation for the development of sports and expressed his readiness to collaborate with the GOC and other relevant institutions to bring it to fruition.
According to the Minister, the GOC is a strategic partner for the development of sports adding that, he would count on the expertise and wealth of knowledge of the GOC to help turn the fortunes of sports around.
He hinted on a process being carried out by the Ministry to find complimentary funding source for the development of sports and believed that, the source will go a long way to help fund various disciplines.
