The Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports, Hon. Joseph Yammin has revealed the commitment of government to identify sports talents in Communities and Hamlets.

The Deputy Minister, who is a former goalkeeper for Corners Football Club, made this known when he spoke at the Sekyere Districts’ Unity Football Gala at Drobonso, the capital of Sekyere Afram Plains in Ashanti Region.

 

 

 

The participating Districts in the Unity Gala were Sekyere Afram Plains (Drobonso), Sekyere Central (Nsuta), Sekyere East (Effiduase), Sekyere South (Agona), Sekyere West (Mampong) and Sekyere Kumawu (Kumawu)

 

The gala, which was organized by the District Chief Executive of Sekyere Afram Plains, Hon. Fuseini Donkor, in collaboration with the Ministry of Youth and Sports, attracted sponsorship from Latex Foam Rubber Products Limited, Star Assurance Ghana and Mining and Building Contractors (MBC).

 

Highlighting on the need to use sports as a tool for development, Hon Yammin said, the Ministry led by the able leadership of its Minister- Hon Elvis Afriyie Ankrah, will use Sports to open up some deprived Districts to the world.

 

He added “we are not only here to identify talents, we are here also with the aid of the media to open up this new district for investors to know the potentials of the people in Drobonso”. He called on other District Assemblies in the Country to initiate such projects for the support of the Ministry of Youth and Sports.

 

Hon. Joseph Yammin also commended the Sponsors for supporting such a project and assured them that the Ministry of Youth and Sports will consider proposals to grant tax incentives in the new Sports Bill to companies that contribute to the development of Sports in Ghana.

 

The Assistant Coach of the Senior National Team, the Black Stars of Ghana, Mr. Maxwell Konadu who was present to help identify talents selected three (3) players who would be supported by the Ministry of Youth and Sports and their respective districts to pursue a carrier in football.

 

Also present to grace the occasion were the Deputy Ashanti Regional Minister, Hon Samuel Yaw Adusei, the Member of Parliament for Sekyere Afram plains (Drobonso), Hon. Alex Adomako Mensah, the traditional ruler of Drobonso and all District Chief Executives of the participating Districts.

 

The Unity Gala was won by the team from Sekyere South District (Agona).
